"I wold believe only in a God who could dance." - Nietzche
The Sun goes into Tarus today, and here's some recipes from my Grandmother that I know all signs, particularly Taureans, will love, (I know, because I'm one myself). The 'Black Bottom' was both a song and a dace in the 30s. She used to do it around the living room. It was sort of like the Charlston, but racier.
Try making the pie for your favorite Tarus instead of a birthday cake.
Black Bottom Pie:
9 in. pie shell
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c milk
2 eggs, seperated
2 tsp. unflavored gelatin
3 tbsp. cold water
2 tbsp. Barbados rum
1 oz cooled, melted, unsweetened chocolate
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. sugar
Stir sugar, cornstarch & salt in saucepan. Blend milk & eggs. Stir in. Cook over med. heat, stirring constantly just until boiling. Set aside 1 cup of custard. Soften gelatin in cold water. Stir into remaining hot custard. Stir in rum. Chill in refrigerator, stirring occasionally until the mix mounds slightly when dropped from a spoon. Combine chocolate and reserved custard mix. Pour all but that into pie shell.
Beat egg whites & cream of tartar until foamy. Beat in 1/3 c sugar, 1 tbsp. at a time. Continue beating until stiff and glossy. Fold remaining custard/chocolate mixture into merangue. Spread over pie. Chill 2 hours or until set. Garnish with whipped cream and shaved chocolate.
Ama's Broccoli Souffle - for post-birthday brunch in bed. It's a little trouble, but it's worth it; remember, Venus is most with Taureans. We're impressed by excess.
1/2 c. Hellman's or Duke's mayonaise
1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. milk
3 oz. parmesan
10 oz. frozen broccoli, thawed & drained
1/4 c. finely chopped Smithfield or Proscuitto ham
4 separated eggs
Combine mayo, flour in a saucepan. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly over low heat until thick. Add cheese. Cook until cheese is melted. Cool slightly. Stir in broccoli & slightly beaten egg yolks. Fold into stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into casserole. Make indentations around the top with the tip of a spoon to make top hat. Bake @ 300 1 hr., 15 min.
