The Elements of AstrologyLearning the Symbolism of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air
To make sense of the astrological signs, one must understand the symolism of the elements; fire, earth, air, and water.
There are twelve astrological signs in the zodiac. Thess can be confusing and daunting to learn. Understanding can be made easier if those twlve are split up in four categories, the elements of the world. FireFire is ever-changing, thus it cannot be confined to one shape, one size or place. This element is unpredictable and volatile, and brings light to darkness. Those traits can also be used to describe the personalities of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The three zodiac signs are described as warm, outgoing, spontaneous, and magnetic. The fire signs are dreamers. They live in a fantasy world and believe that all of life is a stage. Performance, drama, and a creative outlook on life excite and inspire fire. Responsibility and the everyday hum-drum of normal life bore them and crush their imagination EarthEarth is what humans stand on, build with, and draw sustenance from. Earth is everything we see, hear, and touch, and everything that is real. The qualities of the earth are the same as the qualities of the earth signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. These signs are stable, unmoving, and realistic. They thrive on the senses and the pleasure they give. Full of common sense, they give order to a chaotic world and are sought out as friends because of this. They work out problems with precise scrutiny, relating to each problem as it comes along and rationalizing it. AIRAir is the least tangible out of all the elements. It's invisible; you can not hold or contain it. Air is breezy, transparent, and abstract. The same can be said about the three air signs; Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. The air signs are usually well-educated and have a very reasonable temperament. The mind is the most important tool, and they train it constantly, pondering morals, concepts, technology, systems, and possibly most of all, the psychology of human nature. Socializing is one of the air signs best qualities. They are charming, quick witted, and hold interesting conversations. Always compassionate, they are the great humanitarians of the world. WATERWater is the source of life, covering a third of the earth. It can be nourishing, or it can be fatal. Water can be cool and calm like ice or raging and temperamental like a tsunami. The signs Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio, posess the same characteristics of water. Water signs are loyal, nurturing, caring, sympathetic, and usually excel in music or the arts. They can listen to other people's problems without judging, and have an innate, almost psychic power in sensing feelings. A water sign is the first one to ask "what's the matter?" when someone is down, even if they tried hiding their emotions. It's what water thrives on; dreams, fears, and secrets. Hopefully, this gives a better understanding and deeper meaning to all of the astrological signs. All the elements are very different, but need each other to work together in a stable environment. Each element has a different reaction to the other ones, and one can relate that to different relationships of friends, lovers, and family.
